With over 150 first team caps to his name, Adam Marron retired yesterday following our victory against York. Adam wrote on his own socials a powerful message about stepping back from the game which we would like to share.
Stepping back from something you’ve done religiously for so many years can be a daunting thing. It’s important to us that our players know they will always be able to call our club home even after they hang the boots up because that’s what Rugby is all about. Thanks for everything @mazzab
“Yesterday was one of the most emotional days I’ve had in rugby, not just because of the result and securing Level 5 for next season, but because it was my last time stepping off the pitch as a 1st team player.
After 26 years at this club, this isn’t something I ever imagined writing. I still remember being a 9-year-old lad turning up to my first training session, not knowing then how much this game, and this club, would shape my life.
This season has given me a lot of time to reflect. After surgery at the start of the season, I was forced to step back and look at everything properly. Rugby is an incredible sport, but it takes its toll on your body — and sometimes you don’t realise that until you’re forced to slow down. Rugby isn’t just something you play, it becomes part of who you are. The people, the battles, the wins and losses, they stay with you. That’s what makes this so hard. But the time feels right. I get to walk away on my own terms, with pride, and with so many memories I’ll carry forever. Now it’s time to give that same energy and commitment to my family.
I’ve shared a pitch and a changing room with some unbelievable people who have become lifelong friends. That means more to me than anything we achieved on the field. This club is in a great place, with a group of talented lads coming through, and I’ll be right behind you all the way.
Thank you to everyone who’s been part of my journey, teammates, coaches, supporters, friends. I’ll miss the noise, the battles, the changing room… more than I can put into words. But nothing will ever replace what this club has given me.
