Another Saturday another home game against new opposition. On the last day of September we welcome Upper Eden Rugby Club for the first fixture between our clubs with Boro just having celebrated 150 years and UE just approaching their 50th anniversary in 3 years time, not sure I’ve ever been involved in a fixture with a rugby club younger than me.A much changed home side showed the strength in depth we have, all of the incomers stood up to the plate giving good accounts of themselvesThe match started at a frantic pace with both sides giving their all in the opening 10 minutes12 mins in Boro make the break thru after a move that had good hands and runs from both forwards and backs Brendan Hill crossed to score 5-0Back to hammer and tongs efforts from each team UE were the next to score and with the conversion bouncing in off the post we are 5-7 downJosh Lynas the Rhino fancied a break so got himself a yellow cardShortly after Boro scored a cracking try when J Mac hit openside, yes No.7 Aedan Moloney who picked an exquisite line to score under the posts, Bren added the extras 12-7We reach the break 12-7 to the Boro Good game this likeAt the start of the second stanza great hands from the rampaging J Mac feed the ball to Aedan who hits the afterburners to score out wide 17-7More good play sees Harry Bryce is on Fire your defence is terrified score out wide and a Great con from Bren sees us extend the lead to 24-7Boro appear dominant and wave after wave of attacks are repelled by plucky UE, one of these attacks breaks down and the visitors go the length of the field to score a 7 pointer 24-14A penalty kick for Boro steadies the ship 27-14One final attack from Boro sees J Mac and Harry Bryce go close before Finlay Magowan spins out of a tackle to scoreFT Boro 32 Upper Eden 14As I said a great result and performances from our regulars and newcomers a like.
