Middlesbrough ended their 4 match losing streak with an emphatic win against local rivals Stockton, though the score does not truly reflect the game
The match kicked off and the visitors went on the attack, camped on the Boro line for 10 minutes with only heroic defence keeping them at bay
Middlesbrough clear their lines then go on the attack centre Jack Luke makes a break and after stepping 3 defenders he feeds the ball to NZ number 9 Jake Chalklen who kicks on to score. Alas this is brought back for a forward pass still scoreless
A kick through by Stockton lands in the hands of Boro full back
Matthew Marsay, who sets off on a run, passing the ball to returning winger Brendan Hill who passes to Chalklen and then to No. 8 Toby Tremlett to score fly half Charlie Bourne kicks the conversion 7-0
Stockton come back and after some pressure they kick a penalty 7-3
Stockton have their tails up now and they relentlessly attack the home side’s tryline, prop Josh Lynas is sent off for 10 minutes taking a card for various infringements by the team, eventually Boro clear with another good break from Matthew Marsay
Middlesbrough are awarded a penalty which they kick to the corner and from the lineout they drive towards the line only for the maul to be collapsed by the defence thus resulting in the referee awarding a penalty try 14-3, Collapsing the maul saw the ref sin binning 2 Stockton players
The resulting kick off is fielded by Boro then kicked down the field, Stockton knock on and Jake Chalklen picks up feeding the ball to wing Rhys Kilbride who scores Charlie Bourne adds the extras 21-3
Stockton then kick their second penalty 21-6
Lyno the Rhino returns to the fray and within seconds of coming on he guides a driving maul over the line for him to touch down, Bourne’s extras make the Half Time score Middlesbrough 28 Stockton 6
The second half sees prop Myles Colvin make a break and gives the ball on to Kilbride who passes to lock Finlay Magowan who runs in from 20 metres con good by Bourne 35-7
Stockton then spill the ball and it is seized upon by Jake Chalklen who quickly gives a pass to Matthew Marsay allowing him to run 60 metres to score con missed 40-6
From a scrum on half way Jack Luke makes a break and the ball is handed on to returning centre skipper Pete Homan to cross, Bourne adds the con 47-6
Next comes a well deserved try for Jack Luke he’s been everywhere today, a tip top individual performance and Bourne adds the con 54-6
The stalwart centre follows this try with another, Marsay feeds Hill who gives it to Jack another good kick from Bourne sees the score extended to 61-6
Straight from the kick off full back Matthew Marsay gets the ball and runs in to score Bourne’s con finishes the scoring FT Boro 68 Stockton 6
As I said the score does not match the game, Stockton played a big part in a well fought local derby, to quote Vince Tilson who was following the game on Whatsapp, “A cracking performance by the sounds. A few late scores to inflate how it looks” I couldn’t have said it better myself
What a performance from the lads in Maroon and Gold, Josh Joe Myles Adam Finlay Ben Joseph Toby Jake Charlie Nathan Jack Rhys Brendan Matthew Billy Pete and Chris take a bow…
Next week sees us at home again against Aspatria, for Jake Chalklen final game in our colours before he returns to The Land of the Long White Cloud. Come down and help us say farewell and thank you for a top lad who has served our club impeccably in his time with us. KO 3pm
