SS Westoe 33 Middlesbrough 42

Short trip up the A19 to play old foes South Shields Westoe, their clubhouse was closed so us Alickadoos head next door to the lovely Hedworth Hall pub.

So, enough of that, to the game itself. Boro start the match with the advantage of the considerable slope and after 9 minutes SSW spill the ball and Skipper Pete Homan picks up and runs in from 60 yards. Man of the Match Andrew Baggett slots the extras 0-7

8 minutes later and we are pressing the opposition as they try to come out of their 22′ a kick is charged down and the ball is seized upon by Jack Luke who throws a pass out to wing Harry Bryce who collects it to score out wide. Baggy kicks a fab conversion 0-14

23 minutes in and Boro 8 Toby Tremlett picks up and goes blind feeding Rhys Kilbride who breaks a tackle and gives the ball to Matthew Todd who runs the ball in and Baggy’s kick makes the score 0-21

Successive penalties get us deep into the red zone and from the ensuing lineout we catch and drive, the ball is steered over the line by Joe Sawdon another good con 0-28

Alistair Marcus Gareth Alexa Martin Lang whichever one was playing today then breaks a tackle and runs in from 30 yards out Baggy kicks the extras and the Half Time score is SSW 0 Boro 35

This game of two halves then takes a turn with SSW scoring 3 tries in quick succession all converted 21-35

Squeaky Bum Time is upon us but a kick from SSW is fielded by Rhys who feeds the ball to Brendan Hill and his strong run sets up Finlay Magowan pass to Toddy who gives the ball back to Finlay and then onto Harry Bryce and like the Pinball Wizard that he is bounces off 3 defenders to score, immaculate Andrew Baggett kicks a great conversion from out wide 21-42

Westoe then score a further 12 points with 2 tries and a conversion, deep into added time.

But that ends the scoring and at no side we have
South Shields Westoe 33 Middlesbrough 42.

Another bonus point away win keeps the momentum going in our 150th season, Well played Boro.

Thank you to all those who travelled to support the lads, it was ace to see so many there
