This Saturday is the return fixture of the quarter finals against Rochdale RUFC. Rochdale come to Acklam Park with a 7 point lead.

The teams are…

In the first leg, Boro made a bright start and following a turnover from Martin Quinn, Rob Carney scored to put Boro ahead. Rochdale were not champions of Regional 2 North East for nothing. A series of quick tap and go moves and Rochdale were suddenly ahead 14-5.

Sniping against the head, scrum half Chris McRobert stole the ball from his opposite number and fed skipper Lang to score 14-10. A penalty put Boro within a point 14-13. However, from the restart Rochdale regained possession and moved immediately up field to score. HT 21-13.

In the second half, Boro got a solid start, but a penalty showed how tough it is at the top of Regional 2: Rochdale moved the ball up the field score 28-13 but Boro heads did not go down they come right back; a driving maul sees Ali Lang score his second 28-20.

Some concerted Rochdale pressure had Boro camped in the red zone and that pressure finally told. Rochdale scored again 35-20.

The Boro resilience came to the fore again and Hill crashed over for a try 35-25. Boros’ tails were up, and Rochdale were stuck deep in their own 22. Ollie Hodgson was held up over the line. Wave after wave was repelled. With the pressure and 3 minutes to go Boro won a penalty. With leg two on mind the penalty option was took and the final score Rochdale 35 Boro 28.

If last weeks game is a measure of what we can expect, it promises to be an exciting match.
