Aspatria 8 Middlesbrough 29
On a windy day over in Cumbria Middlesbrough travelled along the A66 for their final league game of the season away at Aspatria
The storm was playing havoc with even the shortest of passes, will this hamper Boro’s fluid open style of play?
Not long into the match the home side scrum half was shown a straight red for throwing a punch right in front of the referee
Boro almost take immediate advantage but knock on over the line, Aspatria clear and Boro do a quick switch in play from right to left sending full back Matthew Marsay over in the corner, Brendan Hill kicks a great conversion from the touchline, he had to aim outside of the posts and let the wind bring it in, one Helluva kick 0-7
After this score the home team were sparked into life and camped in the Boro 22, 3 penalties were awarded and repelled by stout defending. On the fourth penalty Aspatria elect to kick for goal and convert 3-7
Great response from Boro a line out win has lock Finlay Magowan set off on a barnstorming run and he passes it to fellow forward Henry Nyinguro to score his first try for the 1st XV. 3-12 and that takes us to half time
Early in the second half Boro force their way over the line, only for them to knock on…again!!!
That man Magowan is on fire today he makes another break through the line and this time passes back inside to wing Harry Bryce “Bryceys on fire your defence is terrified” for a try 3-19
Straight from the kick off Marsay to skipper Jack McPhillips to Hill 5 points, 3-24
Aspatria are on the attack again and cross the whitewash Matthew Marsay charges down the conversion 8-24
A great move down the right flank by Boro almost results in a break away try for Alistair Lang but he runs out of steam and is tackled, but superbly keeps the move alive fly half Shay Barritt distributes the ball to Jack Mac who in turn hits Marsay with a perfectly timed pass and the game is closed out with a try
Final score Aspatria 8 Middlesbrough 29
A fantastic performance away from home in an horrendous wind, ends our season in Regional 2 North
Played 22 Won 15 Drawn 1 Lost 6, Leaving us third behind League winners Percy Park and Runners up Northern Congratulations all round
