Morpeth Report

Oh my goodness what a day up at our old foes Morpeth.Always a tricky fixture, the game starts with both sides giving their all, our hosts seem to have the upper hand when Boro’s Toby Tremlett intercepts a pass and runs it back 40m to the house. A good conversion from Brendan Hill 0-7Aedan Moloney then receives a harsh yellow card when trying an intercept of his own and is judged to have deliberately knocked on, personally, I think it was a genuine attempt to catch the ball Penalty? Yes. Yellow card? Harsh.Morpeth then open their account for the day with a well worked try out wide 5-7Mordor are then awarded a penalty which they squandered when Jack Mac plucks it out of the air and the ball is passed to Sean Joseph who makes a break and the forwards recycle the ball Aedan Moloney makes another burst and the ball ends up with Matthew Marsay who scores Brendan Hill con makes it 5-14Morpeth receive the kick off and take the ball forward but the ball is snaffled by the Boro pack and fed out to Toby Tremlett who, with his Go Go Gadget Arm, feeds the ball to Brendan Hill who crosses the whitewash then converts making the Half Time score Mordor 5 The Mighty Boro 21.Apparently Brendan was going that fast that photographer Allan Forsyth could not get him in focus when he scored. The second stanza starts with our hosts scoring 8 points with a try and a penalty kick 13-21Brendan Hill replies with a penalty kick before the home team scoring another couple of 5 pointers 23-24It would appear that our lads have gone to sleep, but no, they are trying really hard but Morpeth are getting the rub of the green, and are a well drilled set of players.Boro are on the attack now and wave after wave of drives from the forwards are repelled, we are getting closer and closer and eventually we catch and drive from a lineout with James Walker coming up with the score Brendan kicks the con from out wide 23-31Boro the score another try after another good drive sees the ball end up in flying winger Sean Joseph hands to score and Hill slots the extras 23-38Morpeth come back again and this writer thought it strange that they had opted to take a penalty kick at goal instead of trying to get in bonus point range. Turns out that our Numpty of a press officer, that would be ME, had missed a fantastic try by the home team and this was actually the conversion. Silly Jabba. This was the final try of the game leaving the final score Morpeth 28 Middlesbrough 38A fantastic match and great performance from our heroes which puts us 2nd in Regional 2 North.Next week we entertain Consett at home, they beat league leaders Percy Park  yesterday so it should be an entertaining game.At this point I must mention an amazing performance from the Wasps, who travelled up to Morpeth with us. They gave a very good account of themselves losing by only a couple of scores in a very hard fought match. Thank you Mark Willis for all your efforts this week getting the team togetherFor Frodo
