Saturday saw the return of league rugby to Le Parc du Acklam with the visit of Cumbrian side Aspatria. The sun shone on a very entertaining game of rugby, a lot more competitive than the 51-12 score line would suggest. The game started and Boro were on the attack and Aspatria were forced into conceding a penalty which Andrew Baggett converted 3-0Next came a try from Boro, following a Yellow card for the visitors, the ball was fed along the backs to skipper Pete Homan who threw an outrageous long pass out to wing Rhys Kilbride who picked it up on the bounce and pinballed his way off 3 defenders to score 8-0Another marauding run form Homan sees him beat the fullback with a pass to league debutant scrum half George Speakman to score, with Baggy hitting the extras 17-0Boro continue to press and after some crash, bang, wallop the ball ends up in subsequent MOM Adam Marron’s hands who feeds a sublime pass to Joe Sawdon to crash over the line 22-0A Boro lineout is sent through the hands hands, hands to wing  Aedan Moloney who outpaces the opposition to score 27-0 at this point club legend Peter Reilly comes to me n says “What do you reckon Jab?” to which I replied “We’ll put on 50 today” he says “No they’ll come back into it” look at the final score Riles!!!Just before the half our gallant opposition score a try and we reach the break Boro 27 Aspatria 5You would think with myself having a degree in Maths and having taught for 23 years I would be able to add up, but alas no, Thank you Baggy’s Mum for correcting me HT 25-5 (Silly Jabba)Second half the lads soak up a load of pressure from the visitors then spring into life going the length of the field twice in quick succession culminating in tries for props Josh Lynas and Myles Colvin The level of fitness shown by these 2 veterans is amazing. 2 Andrew Baggett conversions make it 39-5Next the ball finds its way to replacement wing Sean Moloney who like his brother in the first half puts on the after burners to score Andrew Baggett adds the extras,Stuart Richardson that’s 46-5 if you know you know lolAspatria then score a 7 pointer, no less than they deserve 46-12The scoring is finished with a great move being finished off by Brendan Hill making the full time score The Mighty Boro 51 (told you Riles) Aspatria 12The win puts us on top of the league on points difference after 1 gameA brilliant turn out by the supporters and some valiant efforts from the Wasps against Tynedale 2’sNext week we head up to Northern RFC KO 3pm#UTB
