Local derby day!!
By Tony Silk
The winning streak continues.
Acklam hustlers are visitors to Acklam park, on the 1st back to back game since early December, the mighty A-team have only played in two games this calendar year through to other teams postponing n and weather conditions,
with great great conditions for the game Not much wind, not cold and sun out on the early spring day a perfect day for rugby,
Game started with Acklam kicking off, 1st piece of real action quinny gathering ball for a nice little offload to warby running at pace gaining plenty of yards up the pitch, unfortunately silly errors and some poor discipline gave acklam a penalty just outside our 22, Acklam decided to try kick to touch but went dead, some scrappy play led to Matty watts running half of length of pitch with some good support work from Chris Allen, to score under posts,
Easy for Sam to convert.
Next few phases then saw Sam going under post himself, coming from a scrum in our 22, Matty Regan slipping after picking up for Chris mccrobert to pick up n go other way n make up some good yards to pop up to Sam who went over with ease! 14-0 15 mins gone, must admit the ref was poor n failed to be consistent, Dougal getting sin binned for "allegedly" kicking out while getting handed off for tackling to high!! Down to 14 A-team kept on pressure which led t Sam going on another great run to put captain Tom thru for a easy try to get pulled back for a alleged forward pass,
Next try came from Adam "mouth" Warburton who weaved through last line of defence, from returning kick off the ball worked way to Sam coming thru at pace to go from our 22, another easy kick making it 28-0,
Some more dodgy reffing allowed acklam to have penalty which our defence fell asleep allowing acklam to score,
Next came another dubious decision sending Matty watts to have 10 mins for open handed pushing a remaining tackler away, with 5 mins to go to ht, scotty Millburn running at least 30 yards against no opposition to go under posts himself, ht 35-7
Ash Kearney having a quick 15 min run out managed to jinx in n out of few defenders to go over coming in from a acute angle made the acklam boys looking dazed n confused,
Adam "mouth" Warburton scored picking up from base of ruck going over uncontested, acklam got a penalty within our 22 after some poor discipline, converted, the game was scrappy, and the ref gave red card to a acklam player for throwing punches, from the penalty Matty Regan bundled his way thru a few defenders, Matty Regan quickly got a 2nd picking up from a another solid scrum charging over, acklam got on score sheet again with a quick tap penalty just outside our 22 to cheekily chip over/thru our nodding off defence, last try of game came from Danny Hodgeson, who was nearly celebrating before he got within a yards of try line before getting tackled luckily he was strong enough to fight off the defenders to trundle a few yards to score,
The ref and acklam captain said that was enough and called full time 5mins early
Discipline needs improving!
Dick of day-JP for injuring himself during warm up
Man of match- hard to choose but would arguably say Matty Regan or Liam Baxter
